Dairy Intelligence Agency (DIA) has developed and publishes a "liquid" indicator of the purchasing power of Russians, the liter index, on a monthly basis. In June 2021, the DIA liter index rose again after the May decline, the key growth factor was the increase in nominal wages.

DIA analysts calculated the Liter Index based on Rosstat data on the monthly nominal salary of Russians and prices for drinking milk (whole, pasteurized, with a fat content of 2.5-3.2%), mineral and drinking water and table grape wine with a strength of up to 14%. The liter index is the volume of drinking milk, water and wine in liters per month that Russians can buy for a salary.

If we convert the nominal salary of Russians for June 2021 into liters, we will get 979.05 liters of drinking milk (3.9% more than May 2021 and 10.2% more than June 2020) or 1595.6 liters of drinking water (3.8% more than May 2021 and 6.8% more than June 2020) or 126 liters of wine (4.4% more than May 2021 and 4.6% more than June 2020). In addition, the analysts of the Agency calculated how many liters of raw milk can be bought for a nominal salary per month based on the Dairy Index DIA, the index of a liter of raw milk was 2003.5 (6% more than in May 2021 and 2.9% more than in June 2020).

The growth of the liter index in June 2021 was due to an increase in nominal wages, while prices for all products except raw milk increased slightly in price compared to May. DairyIndex DIA in June 2021 decreased by 1.3% compared to the May indicator.
