The operator of the labeling system CATD recommended that dairy producers adapt packaging for printing codes.

‘Unfortunately, this is a reality that needs to be accepted and understood. If you come to the printing house, then, of course, there are a number of limiting factors that you should listen to, otherwise you will not be able to count the packaging that you will receive at your production later,’ said Varvara Mikhailova, Head of the CATD project, speaking at a webinar on Monday.

According to her, certain materials are unsuitable for labeling codes in printing houses. In addition, ‘the size of the labeling code must comply with the standard, of course, it should not be less than the recommended size.’

‘As for the color scheme: it is not recommended to place the labeling code on a colored surface, on a surface with some kind of pattern. We recommend that you sel ect a white field for applying the labeling code, and there must be a free zone in this white field,’ she added.

To date, 108 printing houses that have already signed cooperation agreements with the operator or are preparing to sign such agreements interact with the CATD, Mikhailova said. The typographic method of applying codes will allow companies to minimize changes in the production process for the transition to mandatory labeling, and will also reduce costs, explained earlier the CATD and the Ministry of industry and trade.

According to the operator, as part of the experiment on labeling dairy products, more than 7 thousand participants were registered in the system, including 559 manufacturing companies, 145 importers, 766 wholesale representatives and more than 6 thousand retail representatives. The experiment runs fr om July 15, 2019 to December 31, 2020. Representatives of business, in particular of the National Union of milk producers (Soyuzmoloko), which complained about the additional costs that the industry would have to incur were against the introduction of labeling of dairy products.
