Rising milk prices in the regions support the growth of Dairy Index DIA

On January 17, 2022 Dairy Index DIA amounted to 33.48 rubles (about 0.39 euro)/kg (excluding VAT, fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), which 0.9% higher than last week and 15.13% higher than in January 2021. The index continues to grow and break records. The key factor in the growth of the index remains the rise in prices for raw milk in Russian regions according to the Milk Price Index DIA application, the import price, on the contrary, decreased due to lower prices for exchange-traded dairy products.

According to the application Milk Price Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased by 1.4% to 29.8 rubles/kg (about 0.34 euro)/kg, which is 13.3% higher than the price in January 2021. Prices for raw milk decreased in Vologda and Kemerovo regions. The increase in milk prices was observed in Perm, Moscow and Penza regions.

The import price index decreased by 0.07% to 43.88 rubles (about 0.51 euro)/kg, compared to January 2021, the indicator is 25.05% higher. A key factor in the decline of import prices was the decrease in price for butter. At the Trigona Dairy Trade auction, the prices of skimmed milk powder and whey powder continued to increase; the price of butter decreased, the price of cheese remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the weakening of the ruble compared to the previous auction, decreased by 2% to 485.6 rubles (about 5.59 euro)/kg, the price of cheddar increased by 0.46% to 397 rubles (about 4.57 euro)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 3.3% to 304 rubles (about 3.50 euro)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 4% to 112 rubles (about 1.29 euro)/kg.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter decreased by 0.3% to 52.98 rubles (about 0.61 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 0.11% to 37.56 rubles (about 0.43 euro)/kg. The price of whole milk powder remained at the level of 37.87 (about 0.44 euro)/kg.
