PepsiCo has started to label products in three colors

PepsiCo has voluntarily joined a pilot project for the color marking "Traffic light" for food products, reported the Rospotrebnadzor.

It began to place color indication and detailed information about the content of fat, added sugar, salt and saturated fat in terms of 100 grams of product on the packaging.

As noted in the Rospotrebnadzor, this will allow the consumer to make the diet more balanced.

The initiative is aimed at improving the quality and life expectancy of the population, as 63% of deaths in Russia are associated with diseases developing from improper diet.

In addition, the prevalence of obesity among Russian women is 2-2.5 times higher than among men.

It’s worth reminding that the experiment started on June 1. If the content of trans fats, fats, salt and added sugar is equal to or higher than the critical value (in accordance with the recommendations of the Rospotrebnadzor), then the red marking is placed on the package; yellow is set for the average values, and green is set for the low ones.

Earlier, the company "Unilever Rus" (the subsidiary of Unilever group) have applied this system to three brands of ice cream – Ekzo, Carte D'Or and Max.

The Rospotrebnadzor expects that in the future the color marking will become obligatory, that is, it will be included in the requirements of technical regulations.
