Mikhail Mishchenko: the abolition of sectoral restrictions on Belarusian milk is an adequate measure

This opinion was expressed by Director of the Russian Dairy Research Center (RDRC) Mikhail Mishchenko. According to the expert, in general, the closing and opening of the markets of the Union States are the consequences of political games, writes The DairyNews.

We will remind, earlier the Rosselkhoznadzor reported that the instruction of the department of June 4, 2018 on the ban on the import to Russia of UHT milk and cream, dry dairy products and whey protein concentrate - has lost its force, reports The DairyNews.

- The measures taken are more adequate in the system of interaction between the two countries. Simply closing a country that is part of a Union state does not comply with the laws of the Customs Union. The closure of several enterprises is more logical and fair measure. In this case, such a measure is not as politicized as the closure of all dairy products, said M. Mishchenko.

The expert noted that for Belarus agriculture and dairy industry are one of the main sources of funds in the country's budget. Belarus is fighting for supplies to the countries of the Customs Union and will do everything possible to enable enterprises to supply products freely to the nearest markets. At the same time, Belarus is trying quite successfully to diversify its export portfolio and to be less dependent on the Russian market. At present the markets of Russia and Belarus are quite strongly linked.

It should be noted that according to the Ministry of agriculture and food of Belarus, Russia accounts for 77% of exports of dairy products of Belarusian enterprises.

- Another important point - we see that at the beginning of the year Belarus sold its reserves to other markets and thus contributed to the growth of milk prices in Russia as well. The main factor in the growth of prices in the Russian market is imports, and the main supplier of milk imports to Russia is Belarus, - said the Director of the RDRC.
