The growth of milk continues in our country, the expert said. According to DIA estimates, 19.6 million tons of commercial milk were produced in Russia in 2019.
"We are a deficit country in terms of milk and we clearly understand that all natural milk produced is processed inside the country. We see a decrease in consumption of the entire category of milk and dairy products. However, first of all, the consumption of low-quality products and products with substitutes is falling. The consumption of natural dairy products has been growing and will continue to grow in the future", Mikhail Mishchenko said.
The expert noted that the market leaders are reducing the volume of processing. This applies primarily to transnationals and a number of major players from the top twenty. Transnationals have been focusing on high-margin products for years, and many companies are gradually becoming food-based rather than dairy-based.
"At the same time, the largest regional companies are increasing their production volumes, including Komos Group and Molvest. Especially vertically integrated companies are gradually taking market share from the big players-the transnationals. Many people say that “Mercury” has whitewashed the market. This is not true - the consumer makes his own choice and even in the conditions of quarantine chooses natural products. Those who have no money - do not buy milk at all, making a choice in favor of chicken, for example", - said the Director of DIA.
