The dairy industry of Altai region during the period of strict quarantine measures related to the global coronavirus epidemic has only got worse: in-stock balances in warehouses increased from 4 to 4.8 billion rubles and reached a critical volume, reported the telegram channel agro_nomika on July 28.

"There was a surplus of milk in the region even before the pandemic. Production — 1.2 million tons per year. Consumption - 0.2 million tons. After the restrictions were imposed, schools, kindergartens and other institutions were closed. Because of this, the stockpiling of leftovers has speeded up.

If they do not find a way to remove the milk from the region, Governor Tomenko will face a choice: either destroy the surplus, or distribute them as humanitarian aid to the inhabitants of the region. 17.6% of the population are below the poverty line".

As already reported by IA REGNUM, according to the rating of regions by population income-2020, prepared by ria.ru, Altai region is recognized as one of the poorest regions. It ranked 70th out of 85 possible.
