In 2020, the third part of livestock products is grown on private farms

The speaker cited statistics according to which more than 20 million people were engaged in growing agricultural products in 2020 in Russia, including farm workers and individual entrepreneurs, 3 million people work on private subsidiary farms, and they sell the products themselves. 

‘A record harvest - 133.5 million tons of grain was harvested in 2020, the volume of agricultural production amounted to 6.1 trillion rubles, and a third of livestock products was grown on private farms,’ the head stressed. ‘More than 19 million households have their own private subsidiary farm. These figures are based on economic and food security, independence and confidence in the future of the country.’

The expert said that the agricultural micro-census, which began in Russia on August 1, 2021, is taking place in all regions of the Russian Federation, and will cover all agricultural organizations and farms during the current month. But the survey of personal household plots will be held selectively.

‘The micro-census allows taking a snapshot,’ the speaker explained. ‘This needs to be done now, because everything is changing very much in the modern world, the speeds have changed and all processes are happening much faster. Agriculture is also changing very dynamically.’

According to the head, the census takers will not come to agricultural organizations, there are 41.9 thousand of them in Russia, as well as to peasant farm holdings and individual entrepreneurs, there are 144.9 thousand of them in the country.

‘All the above-mentioned categories will fill out the census form independently, mainly in electronic form,’ the expert said.

With the help of census takers, it is planned to interview 16.5 million people in rural areas. As the speaker stressed, the households of the population are the largest group of respondents fr om whom the necessary information will be collected during August.

In the current campaign, there are exceptions for some categories. Thus, private households in cities and urban-type settlements, farms in small settlements where there are less than 10 households, private households located in remote settlements, owners of land plots of non-profit partnerships are not subject to the census.

‘These restrictions will allow us to reduce the cost of carrying out the census, but at the same time we will receive the most detailed information about the agricultural sector of Russia,’ said the head of Rosstat.

He paid special attention to horticultural cooperatives, wh ere census takers will come only to the chairpersons.

‘There are 82.6 thousand non-profit partnerships in Russia, the expert concluded. ‘In this category, it is important to know that all participants of partnerships will not participate in agricultural micro-census. The census takers will only interview the chairpersons of horticultural cooperatives.’

Earlier, The DairyNews reported that on August 1, an agricultural micro-census is being held in all regions of the Russian Federation. The task of the micro-census is to clarify the resource potential and identify structural changes in the agro-industrial complex, check the quality of agricultural statistics, clarify data, assess the state of peasant farm holdings and private farms, assess the level of efficiency of state support for various categories of agricultural producers.
