Natalia Utkina, Deputy General Director and Chief Technologist of the Union of Ice Cream Makers of Russia, confirmed that many ice cream manufacturers encountered problems in the system on the first day of the introduction of mandatory digital labeling, writes The DairyNews.

The expert said that some ice cream manufacturers complained that they could not get the codes.

‘The situation reached a critical point: dozens of tons of ice cream mixture were cooked, and they can't get the codes. We had to leave IT specialists overnight to resolve the situation,’ she added.

Natalia Utkina believes that ice cream makers are put in a difficult situation, which, according to her, is aggravated by the limited timing of the introduction of labeling, the unpreparedness of printing houses and the lack of equipment. The expert noted that in this regard, most ice cream manufacturers have stopped high-performance lines, and codes are manually glued on low-performance ones.

‘With a high degree of probability, they have 5-20% more in-stock balances of ice cream than usual,’ summed up Natalia Utkina.
