On May 31, 2021 Dairy Index DIA amounted to 29.75 rubles (about 0.33 euros)/kg (excluding VAT, fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), which is 0.17% higher than last week and 10.2% higher than in late May 2020. According to the Index DIA application, the factor in the index growth was an increase in the import price due to an increase in the price of exchange-traded dairy products and the increase in milk prices in the regions of the Russian Federation.

According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased by 0.11% to 26.51 rubles (about 0.30 euros)/kg, which is 4.4% higher than the price in late May 2020. Prices for raw milk increased in Yaroslavl and Moscow regions. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Tyumen, Samara and Altai regions. Last week, the weighted average price of milk in Russia decreased due to a drop in the price of milk in Novosibirsk region, a possible reason for which was the suspension of the activities of Rubtsovsky Dairy plant (PepsiCo). We remind, that the work of Rubtsovsky dairy plant was restored.

It is worth reminding that to get access to information about the prices for raw milk in all regions of Russia, users need to be registered on the page of Index DIA and enter current data on the price of raw milk.

The import price index increased by 0.24% to 37.01 rubles (about 0.41 euros)/kg, compared to late May 2020 the index is higher by 18.7%. The key factor in the growth of the indicator was the increase in the price of exchange-traded products. At the auction of Trigon Dairy Trade, prices for butter, skimmed milk powder, cheese and whey powder increased. The price of butter, taking into account the strengthening of the ruble compared to the last auction, increased by 1.1% to 363.1 rubles (about 4.05 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar rose by 1.3% to 318.3 rubles (about 3.55 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder rose by 0.8% to 233.1 rubles (about 2.60 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 0.8% to 94.1 rubles (about 1.05 euros)/kg.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased by 0.3% to 39.98 rubles (about 0.45 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 0.2% to 34.35 rubles (about 0.38 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder remained at the level of 29.85 rubles (about 0.33 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA

Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
