Dairy Index DIA has increased by 0.07% to 28.36 rubles (about 0.31 euros)/kg

On November 30, 2020 Dairy Index DIA amounted to 28.36 rubles (about 0.31 euros)/kg (excluding VAT, fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), which is 0.07% higher than last week and 6.9% higher than in late November 2019. According to the Index DIA app, the key factor in the growth of the indicator was the continued increase in prices for raw milk in Russian regions. The import price decreased slightly due to lower prices for a number of exchange-traded dairy products and the strengthening of the ruble.

According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia last week increased by 0.12% to 25.99 rubles (about 0.29 euros)/kg, which is 3.6% higher than the price in late November in 2019. Prices for raw milk increased in Saratov, Krasnodar regions and in the Republic of Tatarstan. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Nizhny Novgorod and Voronezh regions.

The import price index decreased by 0.03% to 34.37 rubles (about 0.38 euros)/kg, compared to November 2019 the index is higher by 4.46%. At the auction of BUCE the price of butter decreased by 0.13%. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade the price of whey powder and cheese increased, the price of butter decreased. The price of butter, taking into account the strengthening of the ruble compared to the previous auctions, decreased by 1.8% to 297.1 rubles (about 3.28 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar increased by 1.2% to 292.6 rubles (about 3.23 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder decreased by 0.4% to 193.6 rubles (about 2.14 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 0.8% to 69.3 rubles (about 0.77 euros)/kg.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter decreased by 0.3% to 36.82 rubles (about 0.41 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 0.18% to 32.69 rubles (about 0.36 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder remained at the level of 27.48 rubles (about 0.30 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA
Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
