Dairy Index DIA breaks new record
According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased by 0.07% to 26.73 rubles (about 0.29 euros)/kg, which is 3.6% higher than the price in April 2020. Prices for raw milk increased in Kaluga, Bryansk and Vologda regions. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Krasnodar region and in the Republic of Tatarstan.

The import price index increased by 1.1% to 36.69 rubles (about 0.40 euros)/kg, compared to April 2020 the index is higher by 8.9%. The key growth factor was the increase in prices for some exchange-traded dairy products and the weakening of the ruble. At the auction of BUCE the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 0.2%, the price of butter increased by 2.5%. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade the prices of whey powder, butter and cheese increased, the price of skimmed milk powder remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the weakening of the ruble compared to the previous auction, increased by 4.3% to 375.6 rubles (about 4.09 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar increased by 4.5% to 316.1 rubles (about 3.44 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 2.9% to 226.7 rubles (about 2.47 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 5% to 94.4 rubles (about 1.03 euros)/kg.
The 281st auction of GDT (Global Dairy Trade) of April 6, 2021 ended with a slight increase. The price index for dairy products increased by 0.3%, and prices for all products except lactose increased.
The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased by 1.8% to 40.21 rubles (about 0.44 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 0.5% to 34.46 rubles (about 0.38 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder increased by 0.35% to 29.03 rubles (about 0.32 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA
Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
