Christophe Lafougere: low prices for milk have strengthened transnational companies

Such an opinion was expressed by the Director of the research company GIRA, Christophe Lafougere at a plenary session of the World Dairy Summit IDF (World Dairy Summit), according to The DairyNews.
Summing up the speech, the expert noted that since the beginning of the crisis in the dairy market, low prices for milk has further strengthened the already strong multinational dairy companies, for example, Nestle and Danone.

"The largest private dairy factories and transnational groups have become even bigger and stronger," - said Christophe Lafougere, noting that small companies became weaker.

Among the trends of the market the Director of GIRA noted the recovery in commodity prices, accompanied by volatility and vertical consolidation of the Chinese market.

"The Chinese consumer in respect of the dairy market returns to expectations - more branding, more innovation, more quality, etc. Big changes are that China is growing rapidly, as well as its direct control over sources of supply," said Christophe Lafougere.

According to the expert, there is a "general feeling that the world returns to work after a period of severe influenza".

"All that has changed is that a large market participant is becoming bigger while a little one is becoming weaker. All the talks about finding "solutions" came to nothing. In fact, there is nothing that could make us think that what we saw during the last 2 years will not return to us again in the next two-three years", - concluded his speech the analyst.
