2016: milk production in Russia decreased by 0.2%

According to Rosstat, in farms of all categories in January-December 2016 there was produced 30724,1 thousand tons of raw milk. The milk production in the segment of agricultural enterprises amounted to 15040,5 thousand tons, the increase compared to 2015 is 2.2%.

Milk production in the sector of farm holdings and private enterprises showed an increase of 6.1% during last year. It is still the best dynamics in the production of milk. In general, 2158,9 thousand tons of milk was produced at farm holdings and private enterprises.

The milk production in smallholders has reduced by 3.7%: according to Rosstat, 13524,6 thousand tons of milk was produced in this sector in 2016.

It has to be noted that the number of cattle in farms of all categories in 2016 amounted to 18686,9 thousand heads (by 1.6% less than in the previous year), including 8250 thousand heads of cows (by 1.9% less compared to 2015).

While the number of cattle decreased only in the segment of corporate farms and small household plots. Farm holdings and private enterprises built up the herd of cattle.

By the end of 2016 the number of cattle in agricultural enterprises amounted to 8348,9 thousand heads (-1,2%), including 3355,4 thousand heads of cows (-0,9%).

The number of cattle in small householders, according to the materials of Rosstat decreased by 3.4% to 8018,5 thousand heads, including 3727,6 thousand heads of cows (-4%).

In farm holdings the number of cattle amounted to 2319,4 thousand heads (+3.4 percent), including 1166,9 cows (+2,5%).
