Whole milk dairy deficit is expected in autumn

This is according to Andrey Danilenko, Chairman of the Board of SOUZMOLOKO. Union’s leaders believe, in the absence of reliable statistics in dairy sector the current  decrease in milk gross production at commercial farms can be recognized as a symptom for the forthcoming raw milk deficit on the Russian dairy market.

Currently decrease of milk production at agricultural enterprises equals to 5%. This is according to official statistics, submitted by Gilles Bourlot, Dairy Procurement Director of Group Companies Danone in Russia. He confirmed the company is registering raw milk deficit at the market.

Under milk deficit cheese and butter production – the first sectors which are likely to be ceased. At the moment whole-milk products are on the market, but as soon as cheese and butter manufacturing is stopped, whole milk dairy will disappear, commented Andrey Danilenko. The expert estimated raw milk production decrease by 5-7 mln tons in the absence of cheese and butter production.

This is the first time ever raw milk deficit is recorded at summer period. The industry needs new development strategy – in the context of raw milk deficit, believes Andrey Danilenko.
