Weak consumer demand has a deterrent effect on food industry development

This is according to a monitoring of economic development in RF in January-May 2016 made by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
According to the Ministry’s report, the import substitution and achievement of full capacity of the investment projects implemented in 2012-2015 support positive dynamics of the food industry.
In May 2016 the index of food (including beverages and tobacco) production amounted to 102.1% compared to May 2015. During the first five months of the current year it reached 102.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Production of cheese and cheese products increased by 4% vs. 2015. This market continues to show moderate but sustainable growth.
