Vologda region produced a record 9 thousand tons of butter last year. Previously, the region reached such indicators 26 years ago, writes The DairyNews with reference to the press service of the regional government.

According to Rosstat, 50.7% of the total amount of butter produced in the Northwestern Federal district last year was produced by Vologda region and it became the leader among the subjects of the district. If we talk about the country as a whole, Vologda region produces 3.5% of the total amount of butter.

"In 2019, butter production in the region was increased by 20.4% compared to 2018. The high level of achievements of enterprises in Vologda region is particularly noticeable against the background of all-Russian indicators: in 2019, Russia produced 260.2 thousand tons of butter, while the overall increase in Russian production volumes was less than one percent", said Deputy Governor of the region Mikhail Glazkov. The increase in production was largely due to the work of the leaders of the dairy industry in the region: JSC "Severnoye Moloko", JSC "Training and experimental dairy plant" of Vologda State Dairy Academy named after N. V. Vereshchagin and PC "Vologodsky dairy plant". In 2019, they produced 6.84 thousand tons of butter, which is 76% of the total regional volume.

Enterprises with average production volumes also contributed to the development of the industry. LLC “Cherepovetsky dairy plant” and JSC “Vologda Dairy agro-industrial complex (Ustyuzhna)” managed to increase butter production 1.5-2 times, and LLC “Totemsky butter factory” - 3 times. In addition, Vologda region boasts a wide range of butter: "krestyanskoe", "traditional", rare salted and chocolate butter, as well as the business card and pride of the region – "Vologoda butter".

More than 60% of the product produced in the region is exported abroad and sold through Federal trade networks, which creates additional conditions for the development of enterprises.

The record level of butter production over the past three years is being updated for the second time: in 2017, this figure was 8.2 thousand tons. In general, the positive dynamics in the leading industry in the region is observed annually. This is due to the modernization of the milk processing industry and the introduction of advanced technologies. In addition, two major investment projects are currently being implemented in the region: a comprehensive reconstruction of OJSC “Severnoye moloko” and the construction of a new enterprise, LLC “Vologda dairy plant”, in Cherepovets.
