The total amount of investment into the Russian plant Valio in Moscow region has exceeded 65 million euros by now, said the Head of the enterprise Annikka Hurme.
"The total amount of investment into the Russian plant Valio in Moscow region has exceeded 65 million euros by now. In addition, the company is actively investing its own resources, research and development of the Centre Valio R&D to create its own recipes for products produced in Russia, in quality control of raw materials and strict quality control of products at all production sites" - said Hurme.

Also consumers in Russia will find a few new products from the Finnish manufacturer in 2018.

"In 2018 we are planning to announce several new products produced in Russia and exported from Finland. In February Valio will start selling in the new ice cream category in Finland, Sweden and Russia. The dessert is made at the company's plant in Oulu. This is a creamy ice cream made of natural milk with added fruit, berry jams and syrups. On the Russian market the product will be available in four flavors: "Strawberry-Basil", "Caramel" with pieces of toffee, Macchiato with chocolate chips, "Blueberry with rye bread crumbs"", - said the head of the concern.

"Russia and Finland are long-time business partners; they are connected by a long period of successful and mutually beneficial cooperation that continues today. We cooperate with representatives of the Russian authorities, because we are a large investment company, and actively develop production in Moscow region and in Russia", - said Hurme.

According to her, processed cheese Viola is a hallmark of the company, for many years it has been an integral part of the diet of many Russians, who appreciate its creamy taste and delicate texture.

"Since 2016 the whole range of this product (in "trays", "triangles" and slices) is produced on the company's own plant in Russia. Last year Viola did not only regain the leadership in the category of processed cheeses, but was awarded the prize "Product of the year 2017", said Hurme.

"The Russian division of Valio is being developed at an unprecedented pace; we talk to market experts and objectively evaluate all possibilities. We are ready to develop further and to consider all possible options," said Hurme.

As for "companies-imitators" of famous Finnish brand Hurme noted that it is difficult to deceive the consumer.

"We have repeatedly pointed out that some unscrupulous companies are copying brands of Valio, trying without any effort to earn the trust of consumers. They often use design elements similar to the design of products of the Finnish brand. But high product quality, achieved through years of experience of Valio and production standards, cannot be obtained simply by copying the packaging," she said.

"The tastes of consumers in Russia and Finland do differ. For example, licorice is very popular in Finland. In the range of Valio this taste is represented, for example, by cottage cheese and protein powder for the athletes. For Russians the taste is too unusual. The traditional flavors of desserts such as blueberry, strawberry and lemon are also popular with the Finns. At the same time, the Russian leader – cherry is unpopular with the inhabitants of Finland," - said Hurme.
She also noted a special focus of the company on ecology.

"In 2017 the concern Valio has taken some serious steps towards improving the environment. In Finland the company replaced a significant portion of the packaging by environmentally friendly that is manufactured from plant materials. By the end of 2018, milk, kefir, yogurt, and cream Valio in Finland will be sold in packaging with a recyclable cap," explained Hurme.

Cardboard box from plant materials leaves a 50% smaller carbon footprint than conventional packaging, she added.

"There is continuing the design of the processing stations in Nivala (Finland), which will use the waste products of cattle and other by-products of the activity of Valio farms for energy production (biogas), nitrogen and phosphorous," said Hurme.
