In particular, during this period, there was imported 553 thousand tons of meat for nearly $ 1.5 billion, or 23.9% more than for the first nine months of last year (446.4 thousand tons). The import of poultry meat reached 169.2 thousand tons ($ 270.1 million) versus 157.7 thousand tons ($ 212.3 million) for the first nine months of last year. The imports of fish amounted to 284.5 thousand tons ($ 768 million) — 14% more than the year before.
There is also a noticeable increase in such segments as butter, condensed cream and milk, citrus, vegetable oil, coffee, tea. The cost of imported to the Russian Federation alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for the first 9 months of this year amounted to $ 1.6 billion versus $ 1.15 billion for the same period last year, cigarettes and cigars — $ 115.5 million, compared to $ 103.8 million, respectively. A small decline in imports was only for sugar, since there has been overproduction of this product in Russia for a long time.
The growth of food imports fits the general trend of a rapid recovery of foreign trade turnover due to the strengthening of the ruble — already in the first half of the year the total import value in Russia increased by 26.7%. However, in the field of food, this statistics is particularly significant, takig into account the ambitious plans for import substitution in the agricultural sector and in the food industry.
