Such information is presented in the report of analysts of the FAO (Food and agriculture organization of the UN), reports The DairyNews. In general, according to analysts, the global trade in WMP (whole milk powder) will drop in 2017 by 0.5% to 2.5 million tons.
The two main regions exporting whole milk powder - New Zealand and the EU - can produce less of whole milk powder in 2017. However, the shortage can be partially filled by other countries, including Uruguay, the United States, Australia and Argentina.

Brazil, reducing imports of milk by half, will replace its consumption by domestic production. In addition, decline in imports by Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Oman, Cuba, Algeria, Bangladesh and the UAE is projected for the second year.

The import demand from China, according to forecasts, will be partially restored due to an increase by 55 000 tons up to 592 000 tons; despite the fact that this is still significantly below the peak in 2014, when there were imported 786 000 tons of WMP. Colombia, Sri Lanka, Egypt and the Russian Federation can increase the import of WMP, analysts predict.

We will remind that in the first quarter of the year there was increased the import of milk and milk cream into Russia – 56.9 thousand tons (+27.5%), including milk and cream powder imported in the amount of 42.2 thousand tons (+17.4%).
