Russia counts on demand for its agricultural products from world largest market.
"We have become the largest grain exporter in the world; we have developed livestock-breeding well. We hope to line up a full, fulfilling relationship in the trade of agricultural products with China, because the Chinese market is huge, China is very large and, of course, consumes a huge amount of products," said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with Central television of China on the eve of a meeting with a colleague from China.

For almost twenty years - since 1997 – there was a ban on the supply of Russian wheat to China due to quarantine for the country object (dwarf smut of wheat that is spread on the territory of the Russian Federation). According to the results of inspections carried out by Chinese experts, Siberian Federal district was declared free from the causative agent of dwarf smut of wheat. At the end of 2015 protocols on phytosanitary requirements to wheat and on phytosanitary requirements for corn, rice, soybean, rapeseed exported from Russia to China were signed. Currently, four Russian regions - Altai and Krasnoyarsk Krai, Novosibirsk and Omsk regions can export wheat to China. The number of such regions may increase to 6-7, said Deputy Minister of agriculture of the Russian Federation Sergey Levin this week. He also mentioned that the Ministry is working on expanding the list of products allowed for delivery to China. In general, according to Dmitry Medvedev, Russian agriculture "shows an unprecedented in either Soviet or post-Soviet time growth rate of around 3 to 4% per year".

According to the forecast of the Ministry of economic development, in 2016, the Russian agriculture, the key to which during the last years, along with the weather and the harvest was import substitution, will show growth of 3.2% against 2.6% last year. In 2017 the Ministry of economic development against the background of high comparison base, expects the decline in agriculture by 0.6%. In an interview to Chinese TV channel Dmitry Medvedev also reaffirmed expectations for an economic recovery later this year. "We expect that the phase of falling gross domestic product at the end of this year will be replaced by the growth phase, and it's very good," he said. According to the forecast of the Ministry of economic development, in 2016 GDP (gross domestic product) will fall by 0.6%, in 2017 in the base variant of the forecast the growth will amount to 0.6%, and in the variant the "basic plus", which the Agency considers more realistic - by 1.1%. "This is the situation. We don’t consider it to be too optimistic; we don’t try to close eyes to the difficulties that exist. First of all, these are structural problems in the economy of the Russian Federation. We aimed to solve them, with our Chinese friends as well," said the Russian Prime Minister.
