Speaking at the Congress of the National Union of milk producers, Minister of agriculture of Russia said that Russia can reduce its dependence on imported milk within five years to 5-10%. This is reported by The DairyNews being at the event.
"Three to five years ago the import share was more than 50% and, of course, the dependence on it was quite immense. But it is much lower in the dairy industry. I am sure that within five years we will keep the dependence of 5-10%," — our news Agency quotes the words of Mr. Tkachev.

The Minister also stressed that the restrictive measures sooner or later will be removed. Then some products might appear on the Russian market that will compete with the domestic products by price.

"Western, European producers, including the dairy farmers will come to our market. And we must understand that our price and our costs might not withstand these conditions, - said Tkachev. - We cannot restrain this inflow by barriers, sanctions and regulations all the time".
