Rosstat: the number of cows at the end of January 2017 was 8.3 million heads

According to Rosstat, the number of cattle in farms of all categories at the end of January 2017 was 18.8 million heads (1.3% less compared to the corresponding date of the previous year), including cows - 8.3 million heads (by 1.7% less), according to The DairyNews.
The number of pigs amounted to 22.2 million (1.8% more), sheep and goats - 24.5 million (0.2% less). In the structure of livestock the farms of population had 42.8% of cattle, 14,3% of pigs, 47.3% of sheep and goats (at the end of January 2016 - accordingly 43,7%, 15,7%, 47,3%), according to the materials of Rosstat.
Total milk production in January amounted to 2 million tons. (-10% to December 2016 and +2.1% to January 2016).
