Annual decrease of milk production and cattle population in Russia reaches 1.5-2%. This was announced by Konstantin Laykam, Deputy Head of the Federal Service for State Statistics (Rosstat).
According to his words, all agricultural indexes in Russia are increasing by 0.5%, but milk production and cattle population are decreasing constantly by 1.5-2%. These indexes will be thoroughly examined within the All-Russia Agricultural Census in order to work out development programs and plans.

The Rosstat Deputy Head also expressed regret about rescheduling of the Census. If it was held earlier – two years ago, the collected data would be of current interest for the import substitution program today. There is statistical data now, but it’s less accurate, he said.

According to Konstantin Laykam information, during the last ten years Russian agricultural sector suffered certain changes: share of personal subsidiaries and other individual households of citizens dropped from 50% to 38% due to growth of agricultural enterprises. It forwards growth of commercial production. The amount of large farms is decreasing due to growth of the amount of small and mid-sized farms. Volumes of farms are increasing, but their amount is dropping, also said the expert.
