Matvienko urged the Cabinet of Ministers to speed up the work on the bill on child nutrition
"We are concerned about the bill on child nutrition prepared by the members of the chamber, we talked about it a year ago. I understand that there are probably comments to it, let's work on it together. I would ask you, Konstantin Anatolyevich, to give once again instructions to take control of this issue", said Matvienko, addressing the Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the government of the Russian Federation Konstantin Chuichenko.
She asked me to tell the Ministers of agriculture and health that the issue of child nutrition is crucial today. "Let's not treat it formally. Let's speed it up and adopt it at the spring session", said the speaker of the Federation Council. She also instructed the Head of the Federation Council Committee on agrarian and food policy and environmental management Alexei Mayorov "to be more persistent and substantive in the discussion of the bill".
"Where the comments are fair, it is necessary to eliminate the drawbacks, but to insist (on the need for the adoption of the law - notice) more actively, including in the information field. We cannot delay it, everything has stopped. If you like the process, this is not the case, I would like to see the result as soon as possible", appealed Matvienko to the Senator.
Earlier Majorov said that members of the Federation Council expect to submit the bill on child nutrition to the State Duma before the end of the year; it is designed to provide the younger generation with safe and quality food. According to him, the bill is being coordinated by the government.
The bill establishes the legal basis for regulating relations in the sphere of child nutrition in order to provide children with adequate and safe food both in the family and in educational, medical organizations, children's camps and sanatoriums.
The document provides obligatory labeling of baby food products with special means of identification, which will be established by the government of the Russian Federation. It is assumed that the circulation of baby food without labeling will be banned in Russia.
In case of adoption of the bill in the version in which it exists now, the provisions on product labeling should enter into force on January 1, 2021.
