GC "Neva Milk" is going to build a dairy farm for two thousand heads in Vologda region, in partnership with the Uruguayan Conaprole, told the owner and President of the group Albert Sufiyarov. As explained by the entrepreneur, the project was approved by the top officials of a foreign company and now the parties are discussing the details.
"There is interest of foreign investors in milk production in Russia, but they are most concerned about sales. We can provide guaranteed sales, and thata is why we are interesting to our partners", — said Mr. Sufiyarov. According to him, the GC "Neva Milk" had no experience in milk production before and it is interested in the competence of Conaprole in this area.

To implement the project, the parties plan to create a joint venture called "Nevaprole", 75% of which will be received by the Uruguayan manufacturer, and "Neva Milk" will have 25%. As explained by Mr. Sufiyarov, Conaprole will supply equipment and the dairy herd for the project, and "Neva Milk" will provide a land plot. The project is expected to start in 2019 and will be completed by 2020.

According to the entrepreneur, along with the possibility of building a dairy complex from scratch, the possibility of creating a farm on the basis of existing livestock farms is being considered. The cost of the project is estimated at 1.2-1.5 billion rubles, of which about 200 million rubles will be invested by the Russian company.

GC "Neva Milk" is engaged in production of cheese and butter, and also produces kefir, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and mayonnaise. The company's production facilities are located in St. Petersburg and Vologda region, and the annual production volume is 30 thousand tons of finished products. According to the company, in 2017 its turnover increased by 20% and reached 14 billion rubles.

The share of GC "Neva Milk" in the Russian cheese market, according to its own assessment, is 6%, in butter market — 5%. The brand portfolio of the company includes the trademarks "Tysyacha ozer", "Sirtaki", "Gorod syra", "Zoloto Evropy", Dolce.

Conaprole is Uruguay's largest dairy cooperative, with sales volume of 1.2 billion liters. The company produces milk, cheese, yoghurts, desserts, frozen semi-finished products. Among the company's brands are Conaprole, Leche, Biotop, Quesos. The turnover of Conaprole group is $864 million.
Mr. Sufiyarov explained the choice of Vologda region for the project by the proximity of the region to the markets of Moscow and St. Petersburg, the presence of specialized educational institutions for training, as well as experience in the region.

In 2014 "Neva Milk" started the production of feta cheese in Gryazovets of Vologda region, but next year it is going to complete the construction of a plant for the production of processed, salty and hard cheese in Cherepovets.

According to estimates of Artyom Belov, Executive Director of "Soyuzmoloko", the performance of the dairy complex will be around 15-20 thousand tons, and the payback period will be 10-12 years. These volumes should be enough to cover only a small part of the company's needs for raw materials, he said.

Only finished products are supplied from Uruguay to Russia, while there were no projects in the field of raw materials before, Mr. Belov notes. According to him, cooperation with Conaprole will allow the company "Neva Milk" to diversify the sources of raw materials and get high quality products.

"In the second half of 2018, it is expected to restore the level of income of the population, which will lead to demand for dairy products. In the long term, the restoration of purchasing power will lead to an increase in demand for raw materials in 2.5-3%", the expert adds.
