Dmitry Matveev: merging of dairy unions will not change the situation on the market
- The merging of dairy unions will not change the situation on the market, because the essence of the unions themselves will not change: the interests of large milk processors will continue to be in focus. We are a member of Soyuzmoloko, and now this organization is very different from the one we once joined. Then the Union lobbied interests of milk producers first of all and today shift of emphasis towards interests of processors is more and more often observed, - noted Dmitry Matveev.
It is impossible to say whether it is good or bad - it is just a fact, the expert stressed.
- I think that the unions should be strictly divided by areas of interest: for milk producers, dairy producers, cheese producers. As we all have different interests, only the Union of a homogeneous group of participants in terms of market segments is able to function effectively. Now unions are heterogeneous, and the interests of the largest players come to the fore – this inevitably violates the balance in the market, - said Dmitry Matveev.
Yesterday the Ministry of agriculture held a meeting with the Board of Soyuzmoloko on the issue of merging of the two largest dairy unions in Russia. As it became known to The DairyNews, in the near future a similar meeting will be held with activists of the Russian Union of dairy industry enterprises (RSPMO).
Earlier, The DairyNews interviewed the participants of the dairy market what they think about the merging of industry organizations and how they see the further development of events. Most of the respondents evaluate this positively. However, they see the risk of lobbying narrow interests of a small number of companies by the joint organization. In addition, it is believed that the issue of merging of the two largest dairy unions of the Russian Federation is only a reason to withdraw from the influence of the RSPMO the industry technical Committee 470, which is currently a key coordinator of the development of norms and standards of the industry.
It also became known that today there will be held a meeting of the Council RSPMO, where there will be raised a question of merging of unions.
