Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding at Russian Ministry of Agriculture – about the situation in country’s dairy sector
A panel “What kind of milk do Russian consumers drink and how much will dairy products cost in autumn 2013?” took place on July 17. Within the event Vladimir Labinov, head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding at Russian Ministry of Agriculture, commented on the current situation in country’s dairy sector.
The Ministry representative confirmed influence of 2012 draught and feed lack on the market development during the first half of the year and forecasted situation improvement in the second half of the year. Dairy products consumption showed increase in 2012 and first half of 2013 – by 2-3% compared to the previous period. High raw milk prices connected with consumption increase have positive effect on dairy husbandry.
Vladimir Labinov also commented difficult situation in Lipetsk and Vladimir Regions as a result of which farmers were forced to address the Government for support. The level of investing activities in the above mentioned regions was high; the amount of invited investments with application for subsidies exceeded the budget capability. It is a good trend that the sector became attractive from the point of view of investments, but the government cannot support each of these projects due to limited budget. The expert agreed there are some problems in investment projects subsidizing, but added, that the liability of budget within the limits available were fulfilled.
