The growth of the index was primarily due to the growth of prices for raw milk in the Russian regions according to the Index RDRC application, as well as a small increase in the price of imports.

According to the application Index RDRC the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased compared to the beginning of last week by 0.6% to 24.71 rubles (about 0.33 euros)/kg, which is 2.9% higher than the price of the end of January 2018. The analysts of the Center updated data on the volume of imports of dairy products. The share of a more expensive pair of skim milk powder + butter has increased in imports. The share of the more expensive Belarusian skim milk powder has increased again, which led to an increase in the price of import of the product. The volume of imports as a whole in terms of milk also increased, which led to an increase in the import price coefficient in the calculation of Dairy Index RDRC and led to an increase in this indicator.

The index of import price rose by 0.04% to 28.58 rubles (about 0.38 euros)/kg, which is 18.6% higher than at the end of January 2018. The growth was due to both the growth of imports and the increase in the price of skim milk powder on the stock exchange. At Trigona Dairy Trade auction the price of butter and powdered whey dropped, the price of cheese remained at the level of the last auction; skim milk powder continues to rise in price in the background of devastation of the European intervention Fund. Dairy Index RDRC
Dairy Index RDRC is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index RDRC, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
