On January 21, 2019 Dairy Index RDRC amounted to 25.62 rubles (about 0.34 euros)/kg (excluding VAT, fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), which is 1.03% higher than at the beginning of last week and 5.87% higher than in January 2018. The growth of the index was due to the growth of prices for raw milk in the Russian regions according to the application Index RDRC, while the import price continued to decline due to the strengthening of the ruble despite the fact that the prices for dairy products, especially for skim milk powder, continue to grow at the exchange trading.

According to the application Index RDRC the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased compared to the beginning of last week by 1.57% to 24.56 rubles (about 0.33 euros)/kg, which is 1.4% higher than the price in January 2018. The prices rose in Altai region, Arkhangelsk, Kursk and Omsk regions.

The import price index decreased by 0.3% to 28.57 rubles (about 0.38 euros)/kg, which is 17.8% higher than in January 2018. The decline is still associated with the strengthening of the ruble. In addition, the price of butter fell at the Trigona Dairy Trade, the prices of other exchange dairy products remained at the level of previous trades. The price of butter taking into consideration the strengthening of the ruble fell by 4.22% to 332.78 rubles (about 4.40 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar fell by 0.44% to 234.46 rubles (about 3.10 euros)/kg. The price of skim milk powder has increased by 3.25% to 147.48 rubles (about 1.95 euros)/kg, the price of whey powder increased by 2.04% to 66.18 rubles (about 0.88 euros)/kg.

At the 228th auction of GDT (Global Dairy Trade) of January 15, 2019, the price index for dairy products increased by 4.2%. Prices for all dairy products have increased except casein, but taking into consideration the strengthening of the ruble, the price of whole milk powder, for example, decreased by 0.7% to 186.6 rubles (about 2.47)/kg. The price of skim milk powder has increased by 10% to 2.4 USD per kg (161.6 rubles/kg), last week on European stock exchange skim milk powder rose by 5.4% to € 1.95 per kg (147,48 rubles/kg). European intervention stocks of skim milk powder, which pressed on the market, are almost sold out. The price of skim milk powder is going up. At the same time, in the Republic of Belarus, the prices of exchange products do not grow, the price of skim milk powder has decreased, it is probably associated with the warehouse stocks accumulated in 2018, when Belarusian supplies were banned on the Russian market.

The import price of a pair of skim milk powder + butter has decreased by 0.26% to 31.01 rubles (about 0.41 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). Dairy Index RDRC
Dairy Index RDRC is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index RDRC, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
