According to Alexey Martynenko, General Director of CJSC “Umalat”, labeling of finished dairy products poses a threat to the industry, as it contributes to reducing the competitiveness of dairy production. According to the businessman, it can harm both consumers and manufacturers, writes The DairyNews.

Just to remind, last week it became known, that Head of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev signed the order according to which since December 1, 2020 the circulation of non-labeled finished dairy products will be under a ban.

"Labeling of finished dairy products is excessive control that will harm both consumers and producers. First of all, it will affect milk producers, reducing the competitiveness of Russian production. This norm in the long term will also demand very big means and efforts, - reported Alexey Martynenko. - This initiative is in a series of ineffective decisions of our state".

At the moment, an experiment on labeling of several types of finished dairy products has been launched in Russia. Among them, there is milk, cream, condensed milk, kefir, yogurt, butter, ice cream, cottage cheese and cheeses.

The experiment is supervised by the Center for the advanced technologies development (CATD). The experiment will last until the end of February 2020, and since June 1, the application of digital two-dimensional code Data Matrix on will be mandatory all packaged dairy products.
