In Russia there is a decline in employment in the agricultural sector, said the Head of the Ministry of agriculture Alexander Tkachev, in his speech at the St. Petersburg International economic forum (SPIEF-2017), reports The DairyNews.
According to estimates of the Ministry of agriculture, the decline of employment in agricultural sector will be 16% in 2019 compared to 2005. The number of the employed will be by this time about 6104 thousand people. Compared with 2016, the reduction will be 6%. (in 2016 - 6 279 thousand people).

"Factors influencing employment in agriculture: increase of productivity through the introduction of technology, growth of production volumes in natural terms, a high proportion of agribusiness workers close to retirement age," - said Alexander Tkachev.

In addition, the Minister noted that today the increase in the number of middle class in the world leads to changes in the structure of food consumption.

"The development of technology leads to the competition between the manufacturers, hence the rising demand for food, stimulating the emergence of new producers. Increased competition promotes introduction of new technologies to reduce costs for producers", - said Alexander Tkachev.

As it was already reported by The DairyNews, the Ministry of agriculture expects to increase agricultural production by 25% by 2025 with the help of high technology.
