As it was explained by Maxim Ivanov, General Director of Foodline, Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Unifood", "their company is the first joint Russian-New Zealand company in Russia.
Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited received 49% in the company "Unifood", said the manager on communications of Fonterra Grant Elliott. "Foodline" received 51% of the joint venture.
"Five years ago, in cooperation with Fonterra there was established the enterprise "Unicheese" on cheese production under the brand name "Anchor", where we tested the joint collaboration. Two years ago, we began to get ready for the creation of "Unifood". The enterprise was ready for production last year, but it was necessary to bring the plant up to quality standards of Fonterra. In the first stage the enterprise will produce cheese and butter, in the future it is planned to develop other lines of business," - said Maxim Ivanov.
The companies that presented the joint venture noted that the market for butter in Russia is extremely promising.
Konstantin Mandelshtam, General Director of "Unifood", reported that the capacity of the enterprise will allow producing 400 tons of butter and 100 tons of cheese per month.
At present the enterprise is loaded at 20-30% of the maximum capacity.
"Raw materials will be purchased in Leningrad and other regions depending on market situation and quality of raw materials. Fonterra has very high demands on the quality of raw materials and milk produced in Leningrad region is estimated by New Zealand's experts as high quality," - said Maxim Ivanov.
Leningrad region (including St. Petersburg) takes the second place in Russia after Moscow region on the deficit of raw milk; in 2016 the shortage of milk in terms of final consumption in the region amounted to 1.6 million tons. The deficit of raw milk for industrial consumption in Leningrad region estimated by RDRC in 2016 amounted to 106.9 thousand tons.
Fonterra occupies the sixth position in the world in terms of revenue among dairy companies - $12 billion in 2016.
Foodline is one of the leaders of distribution at the food market in Russia.
