30 thousand of cows “got lost” in Russia within a week

As per the Russian Ministry of Agriculture data, during the period from 11 to 18 November 2013 dairy cows’ population decreased by 30 900 heads.

As per the Russian Ministry of Agriculture data, during the period from 11 to 18 November 2013 dairy cows’ population decreased by 30 900 heads. The Ministry noted that the information may be inaccurate. Milk yield at the same time increased to 10.45 kg per cow, the previous week milk yield reached 10.11 kg. 

As of 18 November dairy cows’ population in Russia reached 3.32 mln heads. Ministry’s statistics dated 11 November gives 3.35 mln heads. 

According to the Ministry’s information population decrease during the reported week reached not more than 300 heads. Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding at Russian Ministry of Agriculture Vladimir Labinov told DairyNews the institution prefers to use Rosstat’s (Federal Service of State Statistics) information which is more precise. As reported by Rosstat, as of 1 November cow’s population in Russia totaled 8.83 mln heads.
