The VII annual Motor Rally "Way to milk!" was held in Canada in 2018. More than 50 representatives of milk production and processing industries, solution providers for the dairy industry from the Russian party took part in the event.

On July 15, the Motor Rally participants studied the traffic rules in Canada and attended lectures by Professor Jad Hendrix and Henry Oosterhof, a member of the organization “The Dairy farmers of Ontario”.

From 16 to 21 July 20 cars of the Motor Rally "Way to milk!" visited 22 enterprises engaged in production, processing of milk and equipment for livestock and agriculture.

The participants of the Motor Rally "Way to milk!" visited the oldest cheese-making cooperative in Canada.

St-Albert cheese factory is one of the oldest in Canada: the St - Albert cooperative was founded in 1894.

Dairy farming is one of the most popular sub-sectors of agriculture in Canada. Moreover, in 7 out of 10 Canadian provinces, milk is one of the three "Best agricultural products". Among the farms visited by the participants of the Motor Rally there is a farm Ferme Laitière Blond, which due to effective management is included in the TOP livestock sales companies in Canada and produces high-quality commercial milk; goat farm Grasshill Lloyd Vick; goat farm Crovalley Holsteins, located in the Hastings district of Ontario and working for more than a hundred and fifty years; dairy factory Kawartha Dairy Factory, farms Kawartha Holsteins, Summitholm Farm, Little Brown Cows, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the company Semex, Lely, Alltech, Agriplastics, Green Tractors, cheese factory Mariposa Dairy Ltd and the winery of the family Pilliteri.

The participants of the Motor Rally did not just share their experience, they also learned about the dairy farming system in Canada and about the achievements of the best farms in Canada.

Today the Motor Rally "Way to milk!" can be indeed called an event beyond the politics. Within a few days unknown people became a team, got acquainted with countries and connected the two continents due to a common cause and one industry – the production of milk and dairy products.

Сomments:

Suzanne Atkinson, farmer, member of Canadian Planning Team

I am so humbled at what occurred over the past week and to be included and considered part of the organizing team when I really did so little.

You safely navigated 55 people, (including more than half who had never crossed the ocean before), travelling in 20 cars over 1,200 kilometres including through some of the most congested cities in our country. Everyone brought something important to the table, did their job, not only well, but with a smile. Congratulations.

I really just can't stop smiling. That night at John's with the bonfire and the Russian folk songs? Awesome. The stops were phenomenal. One thing that I appreciated so much was when Taissia and Alex stepped in to help with interpretation for us.

What incredible people Russians are. You are an independent, free-thinking people who are open to learning and sharing.

Kelly Maloney, Agriculture Development Officer, City of Kawartha Lakes

I woke up this morning at 6:00 and wondered who was leading the groups today? I was dreaming about the rally and the wonderful people all night!

I hope that everyone had a good day of sight seeing yesterday and good flights home.

The most remarkable note in my message relates to one thing you hoped to learn while on your trip here. And I hope you can share this, and my whole message with the group on WhatsApp.

The first thing I saw when I looked out‎ the wind ow was rain. I thanked God for the Rain, and I thanked God that we got the rain, but also that he gave us the perfect weather for our Rally. It was not mentioned much, but most of us farmers will be heading to church this morning. I'm on my way there now. I sing in the choir every Sunday at church. This is a big part of our rural way of life, and why we have churches in every town.

Vera MozgovayaСhief editor of The DairyNews:

- This year the Motor Rally moved to other continent! This is an incredible event that is beyond politics, only business-to-business!

People from different countries have come together to understand Canadian dairy philosophy. The Canadian party has shown great enterprises. All of them are united by one thing - the passion for milk!

Despite the fact that the event lasted 6 days, it was held in one breath! All 54 participants were on the same team!

Personally, I liked that we left the dairy industry on the last day and visited the winery! After all, one of the main tasks of the events of The DairyNews is to expand knowledge! Surprisingly, after the tour, some participants began to think about their wine business!

The next Motor Rally will take place in Bashkiria, Udmurtia and Kirov region. The DairyNews invites everyone!

Mikhail Mishchenko, Director of the Russian Dairy Research Center:

The Motor Rally "Way to milk!" was held at a very emotional and soulful level. Largely due to the fact that the Canadians turned out to be very open. They wanted to show how Canadian farmers and milk processors live in reality. The Canadian party was very surprised by the openness of our people, and the Russian representatives of the dairy industry were surprised by the openness of the Canadians.

By this event we have laid a very big stone in the foundation of ordinary human friendship between the two countries. Today the Motor Rally "Way to milk!" has reached the international level and has become a movement. What was done during the motor rally is the first step, the beginning of a long way that we have to overcome together: not only the participants of the Russian dairy market, but also of other countries.

The Motor Rally showed the real possibility of ordinary horizontal ties between people without politics. People just want to communicate, to learn, to study how the similar farmers and milk processors live in other countries. It is very important that during this motor rally everything was done whole-heartedly.

We will set more serious and ambitious goals and attract other countries to the movement "Way to milk!"

Ildar Faizullin, General Director of "Ufa city dairy plant":

- I have not seen such a professional approach to the organization of the event with the study of production sites and seminars. The Motor Rally "Way to milk!" made a very positive impression. It is necessary to thank both the Canadian party and the organizers represented by Mikhail Mishchenko and Vera Mozgovaya for the professionally held event. Special thanks to John Devreese and the entire Canadian team. We not only saw with our own eyes new approaches and new production sites, but also received a huge amount of useful information.

The Canadians were very kind to us and answered all the questions asked by the participants of the Motor Rally from Russia. I would note that here in Russia, even in neighboring regions, many enterprises would not answer such questions, and Canadians, in turn, openly and in detail told about the nuances and features of the production process. I learned very interesting things about technology, equipment, structure of production and financial component, the process of feeding. Everything was very useful.

For the organization of the event, I would put 15 points on a scale of 1 to 10 or 200% on a scale of 1 to 100%.

Yuri Glumov, Commercial Director of "Altaiskaya burenka»:

- The crew number 16 wishes everyone success and practical implementation of the knowledge gained during the Motor Rally "Way to milk!" We thank the Canadian team and the other participants for the experience, which you generously shared, we will be glad to welcome guests at our small motherland. See you during the next Motor Rally and the XI Dairy Olympics in 2019!
